IFO|Fairtravelers is an initiative by experienced independant international volunteers who give the Fairtravelers hallmark to organizations sending people on responsible, integer international volunteering placements, internships, and sustainable travel destinations.
In The Netherlands we give the Fairtravelers hallmark to responsible organizations who recruit their travelers in The Netherlands and we are looking to cooperate with experienced volunteers from other countries to do the same in their country and cooperate with us. Feel free to contact us.
The Faitravelers hallmark is needed because we have noticed that travelers are not always properly informed about their destinations. And according to Unicef’s recent campaign ‘Children are not tourist attractions’, organizations don’t always think about the long-term consequences of the projects they send travelers on. When we travel to learn and help, we need to make sure local communities recognize their position as autonomous partners, by explaining what norms and values they want to teach us and what help they truly need.
Through the development of the Fairtravelers hallmark, we aid travelers in finding organizations that provide a professional service, have strong local networks, and select travel destinations where local needs are handled with integrity. To qualify for the hallmark, organizations are evaluated by their own travelers: the people who have actually taken part in their schemes. Travelers participate in qualitative research both before and after their trip and the results are used for a specially developed monitoring system in which experts also participate. IFO|Fairtravelers instigates action when the impact of a project is questioned. And when good work is done, we encourage this knowledge to be shared across organizations’ networks.
IFO|Fairtravelers believes there will always be people with spare time, money and energy to help others. And that there will always be people that could do with that little help. We would like to learn how people across the world take care of one another. We believe in happiness and sharing it! When our kids grow older we would like them to be able to travel the world safely, experience different cultures and help safeguard animals, nature, and vulnerable people. We ultimately believe this opportunity should be given to everyone across the globe. We want to co-create a sustainable, peaceful, caring, and wonderful world.
Let’s join hands!
